DUI accident leads to manslaughter charge

For some people, the possible consequences of certain actions may not cross their minds. In other cases, there may be too many possible outcomes to count. Unfortunately, if someone decides to drink and drive, it is possible that he or she could face DUI charges and other serious allegations if injuries or fatalities result.

It was recently reported that one woman in Florida was charged regarding a fatal incident. Apparently, a couple had been out on a bike ride with their 17-month-old daughter when a vehicle jumped the curb and crashed into the family. The incident resulted in the child suffering fatal injuries and the parents suffering serious injuries. It was not mentioned whether the driver of the vehicle suffered any injuries.

Authorities believed the driver to have been under the influence at the time of the accident. As a result, she was taken into custody on charges of DUI manslaughter, DUI with serious bodily injuries and drug-related allegations. She was reported as being 48 years old. It was not mentioned whether she was still in custody at the time of the report or whether a bond had been set for her release.

This Florida woman's situation is more complicated than many DUI cases. Because she also faces a manslaughter charge and other allegations, she will certainly want to understand what each of those charges could mean for her presently and in the future. She may also want to remember that she has legal rights that she could take advantage of as her case moves forward and as she works on her criminal defense.
