Family plans to sue, claim excessive force by resource officer

Many people have concerns about interactions with police officers. They may feel apprehensive because they fear getting into trouble, even if they do not think they have done anything wrong. Of course, others may have fears that they will be harmed by police officers due to the use of excessive force when making an arrest or otherwise addressing a situation.

The use of excessive force is currently at the center of an event that took place at a Florida high school. According to reports, the school's resource officer was called to an area of the school due to claims that a 17-year-old student had assaulted two employees. However, the boy's family stated that one of the employees grabbed the boy by the neck. Nonetheless, the resource officer reportedly tackled the student to the ground after other attempts to subdue him.

The incident resulted in the student hitting his head on the ground and suffering an injury. The family of the teen obtained legal counsel and plan to file a lawsuit against the sheriff's department as they believe that the officer used excessive force against the teen. The report also noted that this sheriff's office has received multiple complaints regarding the use of unnecessary force in recent months.

Anytime officers use excessive force, concerns can ripple across a community. This Florida family certainly has worries regarding how this incident will affect this teen and others. If other parties believe that they or their loved ones have been mistreated by authorities in such a way, they may want to gain information on options for taking legal action of their own.
