Florida teen needs criminal defense after having BB gun at school

These days, it seems like there is an incident regarding weapons on school grounds far too often. Unfortunately, some teens may make threatening statements or bring weapons onto school property without fully thinking through their actions. Still, they can wind up facing serious charges and needing a criminal defense even if they think their actions were a joke.

One student at a Florida high school is currently in such a predicament. According to reports, the school's resource officer was informed that a student had a gun a school grounds. As a result, police officers were called to the scene, and the school was placed on lockdown while a search was conducted. Officers found a BB gun inside a student's backpack along with that student's ID.

The individual was reported as being a 17-year-old boy. He was taken into custody and is currently facing a misdemeanor charge of disturbing the peace or disrupting school functions. It was noted that, despite having the BB gun, no firearms charges were brought against the teen because a BB gun does not fit the legal definition of a firearm.

This Florida teen may not have initially thought about the possible consequences of his actions, but now, he faces a serious ordeal. Even misdemeanor charges can have lasting repercussions if a conviction takes place. As a result, this young man and his parents will certainly want to explore his possible criminal defense options in efforts to find the best possible path for working toward a favorable outcome.
