95-year-old arrested for hitting her granddaughter with a slipper

Daytona Beach police arrested a 95-year-old woman earlier this month. The woman apparently hit her 46-year-old granddaughter with a slipper.

According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, the woman arrested was the one who called police in the first place.

When officers got to the house, the 95-year-old woman said she had struck her granddaughter in the face. The younger woman would not get out of bed, according to her grandmother.

The police report said the granddaughter yelled at the older woman and refused to leave. The woman did not live with her grandmother.

The 95-year-old admitted she hit her granddaughter because she wouldn't leave. Police arrested the woman on a domestic violence charge.

Police said that under Florida’s domestic violence law, officers had to arrest the woman. The granddaughter didn’t press charges.

The 95-year-old spent a night in jail, and a judge released her the next day.

While this is certainly a unique case, no one should ever discount charges of domestic violence. As demonstrated by this woman’s arrest, officers take every domestic violence incident seriously.

Even an arrest that doesn’t result in a conviction can affect your life for years. Understanding your legal options when facing any charges is important.

If you are charged with domestic violence or any other crime, a skilled criminal defense lawyer can help you understand all your options.
